This is a bad idea.

HI, FRIENDS!!

So, it’s a rainy Sunday afternoon (or actually, it was rainy – the sun is shining now and it’s quite beautiful and I should really be outside), and I was bored, so I decided to read my old food blog. And it made me want to start doing it again.

This is a terrible idea. I vividly remember how annoying it was to have to photograph every single thing I ate, and then edit those photos, and then transfer them to my laptop, and then post them. But, wise I am not, and I think I’m gonna give it another go. It was a lot of fun to read each post – since I was keeping a log of everything I ate throughout the day, as I was reading each post, I was able to very clearly remember practically each full day, and it’s been over a year and a half. That’s pretty cool.

Anyway, we’ll see how long this lasts (I’m predicting not very long).

Since tomorrow’s Monday, I figure I’ll start then. But before I begin, I’ll share a few life updates:

  • I’m not doing that “nutrition program” (diet) I described in the last post anymore. Obviously. I stuck to it for a pretty impressive amount of time (probably over 6 months), but shortly after I gave it up, I realized that it was just another diet masquerading as a “lifestyle,” and that that sort of thing is even more insidious as a straightforward “diet.” I then did some research on intuitive eating, and about how even that can lead to disordered eating if being used as a way to train yourself to eat healthfully and/or lose weight, and realized that I had been practicing mildly disordered eating on and off (but mostly on) since I had been a teen. At that point, I decided to give up dieting or “changing my lifestyle” blah blah blah altogether, and just eat whatever I feel like eating, when I feel like eating it. I’m not going to get into it too much, but suffice it to say I’m just very much over women being told what to eat, and when to eat it, and the fact that so much of our value is placed upon the way we look. It’s so tricky these days because it’s being sold as “self care” and “eating clean” and as a “healthy lifestyle,” so we think “oh, it’s not about the way I look, I’m doing this to be healthy. This is about the way I feel.” And then, bam. Orthorexia. Anyway, I’m not trying to lecture anyone, but if you’re interested in this sort of thing and want to learn more, I highly recommend reading The Fuck It Diet. That’s all.
  • That said, after going on and on about how I’m just going to eat whatever I want whenever I want, I feel compelled to say that I think that “nutrition program” I was on (it was the 2B Mindset, in case you’re wondering) trained me to eat CRAZY HUGE PORTIONS. The premise of the program was to eat “veggies most” at every meal, but in order to fill myself up while eating this way, I had to eat A LOT of vegetables. Which was fine with me, because I genuinely love vegetables, but I’ve noticed that my portions have definitely increased in general since then. Again, not really an issue – just figured it was worth mentioning.
  • This doesn’t really affect anything relating to this blog, but I figure it’s worth mentioning that I’ve made a career change (although I’m still at the same company) – when I was blogging before, I was doing social media, but now I’m in marketing. I no longer work weekends…and that’s about it. My schedule as it relates to eating is more or less the same. (Although as very briefly mentioned while I was doing a job shadow with a friend who was in marketing one day, we get free snacks. So that’s cool.)
  • Also partially as a result of my half-year on the 2B Mindset, I don’t really eat after dinner anymore (this was part of the “lifestyle”). I don’t purposely avoid it anymore, but I just got out of the habit of having an after-dinner snack, and never started again (actually, that’s not really true – almost every day during the summer, I’d have a fudgesicle or fro-yo bar after dinner, but now that it’s colder, I’m not really craving that sort of thing). Not that anyone really cares, but I did notice I was eating a TON of popcorn during the time I was writing this, to the point that its absence might be noticed (lol).
  • I think I might start using pre-sets on my pictures, purely out of laziness. I’ll try to use ones that aren’t wildly filtered, but also, no one cares – this isn’t that sort of food blog. And it was a huge pain to edit each photo last time. So…pre-sets it is.
  • I still try not to drink during the work week, with the exception of the (relatively) rare social event or work happy hour every now & then.
  • I’m on a pretty consistent cooking schedule these days – typically, I cook dinner on Sundays (I still try to make something leftover-friendly for work lunches) and Mondays, then Tuesday is “fend for yourself night.” (Jeff still goes to Quizzo about every other Tuesday, and although he now comes home beforehand, I decided it was nice to give myself a night off – I usually eat a huge salad, but occasionally mix it up.) I resume cooking on Wednesdays, and also usually on Thursdays (although for whatever reason I usually haven’t planned Thursday’s dinner, so it’ll often be something wonky and thrown together). I still run errands on Friday evening, but Pizza Friday has morphed into Honeygrow Friday. (I ran out of free pizzas around the time I stopped writing here, and it just felt too gross to eat pizza every Friday, and then whatever garbage we decide to eat on Saturday. Honeygrow is a fast-casual noodle/salad place, so I usually have a kale salad and Jeff has curry noodles.) Saturday is still our “eat out” night – we almost always either go out or order in. Every once in a while, I’ll make something “fun” (for example, last night I made nachos), but we eventually ended up actually budgeting for eating out, so that’s no longer a concern.
  • I’m just now remembering I used to usually write these at work, and I don’t really have time for that now – my old job was more of an “ass-in-seat” situation and I had large chunks of the day where I had nothing to do, but I’m now salaried and and my days are pretty solidly full of meetings and actual work…and if not for whatever reason, I just leave. So…not sure when I’ll get around to actually writing my posts – we’ll see. This should be interesting.

Okay, I’ll stop rambling now. Here goes nothing!
